Oxford University Press (OUP) challenged AM Labels (AML) with the task of going mobile in their warehouse. OUP's storage and distribution centre is currently using a Red Prarie warehousing system. OUP wanted to move away from printing labels at a fixed location without being subjected to expensive software costs. Mobile printing was essential for OUP as goods in labels and docking labels needed to be printed on docking cranes and fork lift trucks; this was a long and arduous task from a fixed location. OUP also needed the mobile printers to function with their existing mobile computers and 802.11 wireless network. AML designed printer scripts to run inline with OUP's warehousing system that linked the software to the new Zebra QL420 mobile printers. The script enabled OUP to continue using their existing system with the freedom to print labels anywhere in the warehouse.
