Glentham Life Sciences - Epson ColorWorks C6000

10th March 2022
Glentham Life Sciences - Epson ColorWorks C6000

Glentham Life Sciences, based in Corsham, Wiltshire, is a leading supplier and manufacturer of fine chemicals, reagents and life science products. The company uses its extensive experience to source high quality chemicals for research and production purposes, as well as offering a range of additional services including custom packaging, call-off orders and safety documentation.

Challenge

Glentham Life Sciences found that its existing label printing system was no longer able to meet the requirements of creating high quality chemical labels. The company wasn’t satisfied with the process its A4 sheet printers used to create artwork for different sized label templates, and they also offered a considerable lack of flexibility and efficiency. Additionally, the company’s existing solution was leading to a significant amount of material wastage, as well as requiring a large number of toner cartridges to be purchased and subsequently stored at its manufacturing facility, increasing expenditure for the company.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Glentham Life Sciences experienced significant growth, with many of its products and services being utilised for research into the virus, in addition to diagnostics manufacturing. This led the company to seek out an alternative solution that could improve and streamline its existing label printing operations. Its requirements included a system that was completely dynamic, and a competitive initial cost price was also an important factor. Nicholas Zieleniewski, Glentham Life Science’s Operations Director, decided to get in touch with us as we are a leading colour label printing specialist in the UK, in addition to being a label manufacturer.

Nicholas explains: “We were considering opting for a thermal transfer solution at the time, however after discussing our needs and requirements, as well as the challenges we were experiencing with our existing system, the representative from AM Labels suggested a number of alternative solutions.”

Solution

We shared label samples from various digital printers with Glentham Life Sciences, and the company was particularly impressed by the quality and vibrancy of the labels produced by the Epson C6000 colour label printer. This model further stood out due to its user-friendly interface and the increased flexibility that it offers, in addition to the fact that its software development kit is simple and straightforward to programme, particularly when compared to the thermal offering that the company was also considering at the time. Glentham Life Sciences went on to purchase six of these models from us.

Outcome and benefits

Nicholas explains: “Since purchasing the Epson C6000 colour label printers from AM Labels, the quality and overall look of the labels has far surpassed our expectations. We also found that we can print in different languages, which has been an added benefit. We have made significant financial savings since overhauling our label printing operations, as these models offer a reduced cost per label that is considerably lower than the toner-based system we were using previously”.

Glentham Life Sciences was also impressed by the speed that the Epson C6000 colour label printer offers. The company found that, since upgrading its printers, it was able to save a substantial amount of time on labelling, approximately eight to 12 hours per week, the equivalent of a full day’s work. While its sheet printers took around 10 minutes to complete an average print run, the Epson C6000 enabled the company to complete a larger job in just 90 seconds, offering time savings of over 80 per cent. Furthermore, the new printers also enabled a more efficient solution to be developed that was fully compatible with BarTender Automation labelling software.

We provided a full installation service for the new C6000 printers to Glentham Life Sciences, in addition to comprehensive training and an extensive aftercare package. We were also able to draw upon our expertise as a label manufacturer, as well as our vast knowledge on hardware and software, to provide technical support and help the company to specify the correct materials.

Nicholas adds: “Our experience with AM Labels has been really positive. The team was friendly and provided excellent assistance in recommending the right products for our needs. The representative from AM Labels had outstanding technical knowledge on both hardware and software, and turnaround times for quotes were fast, as were delivery times.”

Switching from outdated sheet-based printers to digital technology has enabled Glentham Life Sciences to take complete control of its labelling operations with increased levels of flexibility and quality, while reducing costs and significantly increasing turnaround times for its customers too.
